The recent news that the Mambo Sauce band has parted ways with singer Yendy Brown and their manager, Malachi of Red C Records, has stunned many music lovers in the DMV and across the country. Over the last couple of years Mambo Sauce has achieved a nationwide following with standout hits like "Miracles" and "Welcome to DC". The video for "Welcome to DC" was directed by DC rapper Tabi Bonney and has been in rotation on VH1. Black Boo, a lead mic and rapper for Mambo Sauce, talks about his band and clears up some of the rumors.

DCSuperSid: I guess everyone wants to know what's going on with the band right now.

Black Boo: It basically was a difference in opinions. But we remain on good terms with Malachi and Yendy and we may still continue a business relationship (with them) as well.

DCSuperSid: Does that mean that Mambo Sauce is still signed to Red C Records?

Black Boo: No, we were never officially signed with Red C Records. But I want to be clear about giving Red credit because he was definitely the visionary behind Mambo Sauce. It was totally his idea to only perform original material. There wouldn't even be a Mambo Sauce without Red C Records.

DCSuperSid: Who wrote the songs and who owns the copyrights?

Black Boo: We do, I mean the band. We own the trademark to the name "Mambo Sauce" and we wrote the songs. We have our own company, Mambo Sauce LLC. Red did assist with the creation of some the music and when the album is released he will definitely receive credit for the songs that he worked on.

DCSuperSid: What is the status of the CD?

Black Boo: We have actually completed the CD, but because of these changes we will probably push the release back a little bit. We're still in the progress of building the brand. We have a lot of things coming up, a new website is about be launched and we might put out a line of apparel. We also have a web video project coming up, something like You Tube.

DCSuperSid: Is the band with any label right now?

Black Boo: No, we've never a signed a contract with any label, so right now we control our own destiny. I will say that we are in talks with a major label and you should be hearing some news pretty soon.

DCSuperSid: Is the rest of the band still together?

Black Boo: Yes, everything is still the same. We have the same agenda. We have the same marketing plan.

DCSuperSid: Are there any other misconceptions that you would like to clear up?

Black Boo: Some people are saying that Mambo Sauce had a little success and our egos led us to part ways with Malachi. That's simply not true. It was a matter of us growing in different directions and that led to disagreements over various decisions. But we want people to know that we are not stopping. Failure is not an option!

last time you saw X.O., it was probably when he dropped the takeover 2 back in the beginning of june. the mixtape, with the wale-assisted "rid’n (remix)," had the streets and the blogs going crazy!

X.O.’s latest effort, "US vs. THEM," is like a mix between an EP and a full-length album. nine crazy tracks, with INCREDIBLE production from team demolition, best kept secret, judah, and jaguar skillz. he also recruits some solid local talent to help him out on the tracks, including benji, ra the MC, marky, tragic, and nightmare. you hear lyricial progression, as X.O.’s uncanny storytelling ability is highlighted on "act like you know," and his chameleon-esque rhyme scheme switches up on tracks such as "ring, ring." there’s even some club-friendly/trunk music joints, too.

this joint gets my vote as the best thing i’ve heard in weeks, hip hop wise. if you like real rap, and you want to know the next rapper to blow from the DMV, then this is for you.
