While the DC movement is one of the strongest scenes on the come-up, Virginia has been represented for years by the likes of Pharrell, The Clipse, Timbaland and the whole Star Trak fam. It's time to meet Champain Era; brought in to the game in Virginia Beach, but 100% DMV.CHAMPAIN ERA :: BACK TO THE FUTURE
Champain Era has definitely embraced the Star Trak/VA Beach connection as he's recorded with Pharrell & Co. many a time. With guidance from his peers, he's developed positively since his debut record, "Top of the South," which was featured on the radio down the east coast to Big Mike mixtapes.
What I love about Champain Era is his love for the DMV culture. He embraces the go-go sound, much like DMV frontrunner Wale, and has MC'ed with a 7 Piece band instead of traditionally just playing the instrumentals and rapping over them.
Champain Era is gearing up for a full length independent feature, "New Years," which features Major production from the likes of Bink (Roc-a-fella), DJ Toomp, DJ Devastator, Warryn Campbell (legendary R&B producer/Kanye), and Judah (Studio 43/Wale).
